Virginia’s former COVID-19 vaccine star is named to head the Department of Social Services. Dr. Danny Avula left his position last month so he could resume duties as director of the Richmond City and Henrico County health districts. Last week Governor Glenn Youngkin appointed Avula as commissioner succeeding Duke Storen who had been in that position since 2018. Avula says much of the support that ultimately impacts families’ health and resilience lies within DSS.
