December was a big month for Virginia sports betting. According to the Virginia Lottery bettors wagered over $426 million which is the second-highest month since the inception of sports betting last year. More than $395 million was won. Since betting began nearly a year ago more than $3.2 billion was wagered on a wide variety of approved sporting events. 10 companies are licensed for sports betting and there is a 15% tax based on each permit holder’s adjusted gross revenue.
