It was a short school day in Essex County last Friday after dozens of teachers called in sick. Superintendent Dr. Harry Thomas III tells NBC 12 the teachers who called out did so because of their dismay with the school board’s action to eliminate COVID mitigation protocols. Thomas and central office personnel, bus drivers, and volunteers helped with instruction and supervision until early dismissal at 12:00 p.m.
