Virginia ranks near the middle of a list ranking total tax burdens The report from moneygeek.com found a Virginia married couple making the median national salary pay an average of around $8,000 in taxes a year which translated to nearly 10% of income. The commonwealth received a tax-friendliness grade of “C”. The least taxed state was Wyoming while Illinois was the highest-taxed.
