The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles confirmed Friday that it will pay refunds to nearly 2,800 vehicle owners due to errors in calculating highway users fee for owners of vehicles that average at least 25 miles per gallon. According to the Richmond-Times Dispatch the fee was implemented in 2020 to get compensation from EV and fuel-efficient vehicles because they pay less fuel taxes. The refunds will be from $5 to $40.
