Virginia Department of Health officials report there is a low level of the new omicron variant in the Commonwealth which has been spreading in other parts of the world. They do not expect that the so-called BA.2 variant would cause nearly the rise or spike in cases as was the case last year with omicron. The new variant is said to be more transmissible than the original omicron.
