State Senate Rejects Adding Misdemeanor Charge For Pot Possession

The state senate rejects Governor Glenn Youngkin’s proposal that Virginia establish intermediary misdemeanor penalties for possession of more than two ounces of marijuana. According to 8 News the General Assembly’s Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission made a similar recommendation in a report last year before Virginia’s legalization law went into effect. Currently possession of more than an ounce of pot results in a $25 civil penalty.
