Monkeypox Detected In Virginia

The Virginia Department of Health announced the first presumed monkeypox case was detected in a commonwealth resident. The patient lives in the northern region and recently traveled to a country where the disease is known to occur. The individual was not infectious during travel and is currently isolating. Monkeypox is a potentially serious viral illness that is transmitted when someone has close contact with an infected person or animal.
