Pedestrian deaths reached record highs last year according to the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles. 125 pedestrians lost their lives in 2021 which is 11 more than in 2020. The previous record was in 2019. DMV officials say the 2021 record could be broken this year because there’s been 57 deaths so far while at this time last year there were 46 deaths. The DMV issued an advisory encouraging drivers and pedestrians to respect each other and stay safe on the roads.
