Lancaster County Historical Marker To Be Dedicated Oct. 15

A dedication for a Historical Highway Marker recognizing The Honorable Armistead Stokalas Nickens is scheduled for October 15 at 11:00 a.m. According to the Rappahannock Record the marker is to be located near 621 Kamps Mill Road, formerly known as the Theodore Byrd Barber Shop. Nickens was the first and only African-American elected official from Lancaster County to serve in the House of Delegates. He also donated land and helped to build one of the first schools for African Americans in Lancaster County.
