Miyares Wants Authority To Prosecute Local Sex Crimes

Attorney General Jason Miyares renews push to have his office prosecute local sexual abuse crimes. According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch Miyares is working legislators to revive a bill that could give him that authority. Those cases are currently prosecuted by commonwealth attorneys. Earlier this year, the Senate stopped the legislation, Commonweath’s The Virginia Association of Commonwealth’s Attorneys is opposed to the bill saying Miyares is obstructing efforts to build a more effective, equitable, and just system and instead return to the ”tough-on-crime” approach.
