According to a news release carrying in firewood can allow for the easy movement of destructive pests, such as emerald ash borer or spotted lanternfly. This also includes diseases. The department says it is not easy to tell if an invasive pest has infested firewood, so the best option is to buy firewood local to the county where it will be used.
