JLARC Issues Report On COVID-19 Impacts On Education

A study conducted for the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission finds Virginia sudent academic achievement declined during the COVID-19 pandemic particularly in reading and mathematics. The Virginia Mercury reports the study determined classroom behaviors, student absences and reported mental health issues had worsened. There was a 19% chronic absenteeism rate among students statewide. Researchers are recokmmending that lawmakers provide school divisions with funding for training on behavioral issues and classroom management.
