The Lancaster planning commission completed much of its work on a proposed short-term rental regulation as part of the zoning ordinance last week. Both hosted and unhosted rentals would be limited to a maximum of 10 people overnight and a maximum of 180 rental nights per calendar year. All rentals must register with the county and pay the transient occupancy tax, currently 2%. The ordinance also includes a prohibition on portable or temporary shelters being used as a short-term rental, specifically “tents, trailers, recreational vehicles or similar portable or temporary shelters.” The commission will hold a related public hearing on January 19th.
