Virginia Ranks Low In Healthcare Spending

A report from the Virginia Joint Commission on Health Care found the Commonwealth ranks 38th nationally in public health spending per capita and Virginia is one of just seven states that decreased total public health funding in the months before the COVID-19 pandemic. The study found there is no system in place to hold local health departments accountable and many are in need of additional support for information technology and its workforce. Virginia has 118 local health departments organized into 35 health districts.
