Fones Cliffs Property Auction Sale Closes

A conservation group closes on its purchase of a 1,000 acre Fones Cliffs property that was to be the location of hundreds of homes and an 18-hole golf course. The Virginia Mercury reports The Conservation Fund, a national nonprofit focused on land preservation made a $8.1 million bid during a bankruptcy sale last month. The land will be placed under conservation easement with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and then transferred to the Rappahannock Tribe during the latter half of 2023.
