Bill Would Allow Police Chiefs To Impose Curfews

Police chiefs in Virginia could impose curfews if a bill in the state Senate becomes law. The measure would allow a police chief to restrict people from gathering and impose a curfew “if there exists an imminent threat of any civil commotion or disturbance which constitutes a clear and present danger.” The curfew would only be in place for no more than 24 hours unless extended or renewed through a judicial order or by a governing body.
