Virginuia will not lift the prohibition on gas-powered vehicle sales by 2035 after the State Senate voted against several measures proposing to repeal the law.
Environmental groups say the adoption of the standards which are in line with California is one of the biggest steps Virginia has taken to address climate change. Governor Glenn Youngkin and many Republican lawmakers called for lifting the ban.
