VDACS’ Weights and Measures Inspections Protects Virginia’s Consumers and Businesses

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is participating in the observance of National Weights and Measures Week. It commemorates the signing of the first weights and measures law in the U. S. in 1799 by President John Adams. This law provided each state with a set of weights and measures standards, to protect the interest of buyers and sellers of commodities. The department is responsible for assuring that weighing and measuring devices are accurate and operate correctly.
