Today Essex County Public Schools takes delivery of 2 new electric powered school buseswhich will replace existing diesel-fueled vehicles. The money for the buses comes from the Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust, administered by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. The settlement reached with the automaker in 2016 funds investments in clean energy alternatives . The school division also received funding from Dominion Energy for the electric school bus charging infrastructure.
