New Law Increases Penalties For ‘Swatting’

Governor Glenn Youngkin siugns a bill increasing the penalties for making a false emercency call – a practice known as “swatting”. The bipartisan legislation increases the fine to $2,500 and can also include up to 12 months in jail. There are stronger penalties if someone is injured or dies as a result of the fake emergency. The increased penalties take effect on July 1.
