Public schools throughout Virginia will be required to install and maintain automated external defibrillators, or AEDs, a medical device used to help a heart return to a normal rhythm in an emergency. According to the Virginia Mercury the law passed by the General Assembly requires school boards to develop a plan for their placement and care in every building. The state will help; school divisions cover the costs for the AEDs.
