The Virginia Public Access Project names former state elections commissioner Chris Piper as executive director. According to the Virginia Mercury Piper will join the nonprofit next month to succeed retiring Executive Director David Poole, a former journalist who founded the organization in 1997 which is noted for being an invaluable source of free information about Virginia politics. Piper’s hiring was announced Wednesday at a fundraising auction.
