Middlesex County Public Schools officials announced data on its its computer systems was not stolen in a “ransomware” attack where data gets encrypted and is inaccessible by the owner. The attacker demands a monetary ransom to release the data back to the owner. According to the Southside Sentinel claims from a ransomware group they hacked the MCPS website and stole data are unfounded. Superintendent Dr. Tracy Seitz tells the newspaper they are working to prevent future attacks.
