Virginia’s unemployment rate fell to 2.9% in May and remains below the national rate of 3.7%. According to Governor Glenn Youngkin’s office the Commonwealth’s labor force participation rate increased in May to 66.5%, the highest rate since July 2013. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported the number of employed residents increased by nearly 30,000 in May to 4.44 million. The number of unemployed residents decreased by nearly 6,000 to just over 134,000.
