On April 9, 2011, Mid-County Volunteer Rescue Squad, 7990 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville, dedicated a Memorial Garden in remembrance “To Those Before Us and Those After Us.” According to the Rappahannock Record, memorial stones and benches grace the garden bearing the names of past first responders since Mid-County’s inception 36 years ago, reported secretary Nina Bhat. On October 7, at 1:30 p.m., another memorial ceremony is planned. Markers for five additional members and a former chaplain will be laid, said Bhat. Those members being memorialized are Ed Gotthardt, Jim Suttles, Dan Connor, Nancy McNeal, Victor Rollins and Rev. Lee Scripture Jr.
