Maurice Johnson of Reedville was appointed, 3-1, as interim supervisor for District 5 on the Northumberland board of supervisors. Richard Haynie, Thomas Tomlin and James Brann voted in favor, James Long voted against. The seat, vacated with the death of Ronnie Jett last month, is up for election. Gayle H. Sterrett and Charles “Chip” Williams IV are both on the ballot. He still needs to be sworn in by Clerk of the Circuit Court Deborah Bingham but is expected to be on board at the October 12 meeting.
