The Kilmarnock Planning Commission on Monday, September 11, unanimously recommended the approval of a conditional use permit (CUP) for a proposed auction house and open-air market at 488 North Main Street. According to the Rappahannock Record, applicant Brad Smith of Big Red Enterprises LLC told the commission his business is outgrowing its existing space in Irvington and Hie open-air space available on Main Street would be ideal for his operations.
Smith said his business, which is primarily conducted through online auctions of estate and liquidation sales, brings people from all over the state as well as the country to the area. Those who come to his location to purchase auction items are looking for tilings to do, places to eat and places to stay.
