The Northumberland County Historical Society on Saturday, September 16, will open the Old Jail for tours and host an open house from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Ball Memorial Library and Museum, 86 Back Street, Heathsville. The public is invited to browse the extensive genealogical and historical library as well as displays of medical bags that were carried by three local doctors and interesting items that were typically carried in those bags by doctors in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Staff will assist visitors with research questions and answer questions about the society’s mission, membership and possible staff positions.
