Phyllis D. Swift of Burgess was found guilty of one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty recently but could potentially face conviction on another 56 counts. The Rappahannock Record reports Swift’s home was raided by Northumberland County Animal Control Officers in March when some 58 dogs of varying breeds and ages were seized and taken to the county’s animal shelter for care and adoption. Although no monetary fines were imposed on Monday, Swift still has over $20,000 remaining to pay related to a civil suit filed by the county to gain custody of the animals
