Early Look At Future Lancaster Junior/Senior High School

The Lancaster school board and the board of supervisors got the first glimpse of the future junior/senior high school to be built in Kilmarnock during a joint meeting this week. Outside the building, approximately 160 parking spaces will be available during a typical school day and up to 207 spaces are possible for after-school activities through the use of parking in the drop-off and bus loops. Students, staff and visitors will all enter though one main entrance, and once inside, a fitness center, a main gym that will seat 1,100 and an auxiliary gym are immediately on the left. Opposite them are the administrative offices and an auditorium that will seat 625-650. Through the center of the building, a large common area provides places for students to eat and gather during their school day, while serving the same purpose for public events in the building.
Renewable energy also is being looked at with the possible use of geothermal and solar, which is projected to cut energy costs. If used, the solar panels would be installed on the roof and geothermal wells would be installed under parking lots.
