Fire Station Plans Within Gloucester County Referendum Package

We’ve told you about the $39 million dollar referendum on the ballot for voters in Gloucester County, and within that package is roughly $12 million to build a new Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Station 1. The original building was constructed in 1950 and there have been several add-ons since, including the fire engine and ambulance bays. Still, there are issues. WTKR reports there’s only about two inches between the top of the ladder truck and the ceiling of the bay and standards for fire houses have changed, as well. But the current Station 1 building on Main Street doesn’t fit those National Fire Protection Association requirements, including the need for a new exhaust removal system, which can’t be installed due to space limits.
