Dominion Energy Virginia (DEV) is in the final segment of a four-phase project to replace an aging 230 kilovolt electric transmission line that runs from New Kent into King William, King and Queen, Essex and Richmond counties.
Construction began last year along a 41 mile corridor and remains within the existing right of way crossing the Mattaponi, Pamunkey and Rappahannock rivers. Crews are presently in Essex County making upgrades to the line along Fairfield Lane and Ephesus Church Road in Dunnsville, as well as Tidewater Trail before crossing the Rappahannock into Richmond County. Dominion Energy Virginia says it is replacing the existing H frame structures with a taller, double circuit monopole structure and in some cases replacing existing lattice structures with a similar structure – constructed from a different material.
