Local Projects Get A Share Of Virginia Land Conservation Foundation Funding

Governor Glenn Youngkin has announced $14.7 million in Virginia Land Conservation Foundation funding for 29 projects throughout the Commonwealth. The projects include land acquisitions for new public outdoor recreation areas, and conservation easements to protect active forests and farmland. Locally, Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission is receiving $750,00 to acquire 118 acres of waterfront in Middlesex County to develop a beach park offering public access to the Rappahannock River, Bushy Farm Creek and natural area. In Westmoreland County, The Trust for Public Land is receiving $585,000 for conservation easements on 320 acres of farmland along the Potomac River and Popes Creek. These conserved farms will be connected to another 3,000 acres of public and privately conserved land, including Westmoreland State Park, on the Northern Neck.
