Money Flows To Help Kilmarnock’s Wastewater Treatment

U.S. Senators Mark R. Warner and Tim Kaine recently announced $8,165,000 in federal funding to improve wastewater treatment in Kilmarnock and Clarksville. Close to $5 million was awarded to Kilmarnock to modernize two wastewater treatment plants to a system designed to more effectively remove nitrogen, phosphorus and other harmful materials, enhance the aeration system, construct a new glycerin-feed facility, install cloth disk filters, replace the ultraviolet (UV) system with a low-pressure highoutput one, and upgrade other features to bring the systems into compliance with Department of Environmental Quality regulations. These upgrades will help better protect the health and safety of community members and the environment by preventing harmful substances from entering local waterways.
