JJ Kellum’s Country Store building in Weems is nothing but a memory now that crews demolished the John’s Neck Road structure last week. William Kellum’s grandson Tommy tells the Rappahannock Record it was a hard decision to tear the building down but it was a choice of demolishing it or having it come down on its own. The country store opened in 1901 and closed in 2017. Kellum says the local reaction to the demolition made him feel like they were taking down a shrine.
