Governor Ralph Northam declares October as “Virginia is for Lovers, Not Litter” month. It’s part of a first-time initiative that focuses on raising awareness about litter and encouraging all Virginians to commit to do their part to keep the Commonwealth litter-free. Officials say it costs nearly $3.5 million annually to clean up litter on Virginia’s roadways. Litter can also be harmful to Virginian’s health and the environment plus it is an unnecessary obstacle on roads and highways.
