Virginia has its first cases of the Omicron COVID-19 variant. The Health Department reported the individual is in the Northwest region and had not traveled out of the country but did travel within the U.S. Experts say Omicron may transmit more readily than other variants but there’s no evidence it is more severe. VDH recommends people wear a mask, get vaccinated, social distance, wash their hands and stay home if they’re sick.
