Governor Ralph Northam’s office announced crews may have located the more-than-130-year-old time capsule believed to have been buried in the base of the former Robert E. Lee memorial in Richmond. The statue was removed in September and searchers tried then to find the 1887 time capsule which according to historians was referenced in a newspaper article from that year. The discovery is being verified by a conservation lab.
