The charitable arm of restaurant chain Fireehouse Subs makes a donation to Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue for the purchase of a 16-foot SeaArk rescue boat, motor, and trailer. AVFR Special Operations Captain Jay Parlett tells the Gazette-Journal the new vessel well help them respond in the shallow waterways throughout their district and easily launch from the many natural boat ramps throughout the county. The Firehouse Foundation awarded close to 120 grants last year totalling over $2.5 million.
