Virginia Grocery Tax Reduction In Jeopardy After Legislation Is Rejected

The reduction of Virginia’s 2.5% grocery tax is in jeopardy now that a Senate subcommittee rejected a bipartisan bill. It called for removing the state’s part of the tax leaving the 1% portion in effect. The state’s share goes to K-12 schools and transportation and the revenue lost would have been replaced with general fund allocations. A revised grocery tax repeal bill may be considered in the future.
