The “Beryl R. Newman Memorial Bridge” over Urbanna Creek now has additional signage showing why the span was named for the World War II veteran. According to the Southside Sentinel the Virginia Department of Transportation added the signs saying “Medal of Honor Recipient” to recognize Newman’s service. The new signs are the result of a Town Council action after people asked why the bridge was named after Newman.
