The Treasurers’ Association of Virginia issues accreditation to the Northumberland County Treasurer’s Office. According to the Northumberland Echo this is the 22nd year the office received accreditation through the voluntary professional certificate program. It acknowledges the office meets the statewide best practices for performance in treasury management. To receive accreditation the treasurer’s office is put through a series of evaluations and audits. About two-thirds of Virginia’s treasurer offices are accredited.
