The Mathews County Board of Supervisors has called a special public hearing for Tuesday on transferring ownership of the Confederate monument and the county-owned land it sits on. The Gazette-Journal reports the hearing is at 6:00 p.m. in the Harry M. Ward Auditorium at Mathews High School. The Board is proposing to deed the monument and land to the private nonstock corporation. Last year voters approved a referendum calling for the statue’s removal.
