Mathews County’s Confederate monument is staying put for now following a public hearing at Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting which got very loud at times including some attendees chanting. Supervisors decided not to vote on deeding the monument and the ground it is on to a private organization saying they want to continue reviewing the proposal. Last year voters approved a referendum to remove the monument.
