DPOR Warns Of Real Estate Scams

The Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation issued a warning to real estate brokers about a rise in fraudulent real estate scams in neighboring states. It usually involves unencumbered and vacant lots owned by someone out of state and often a person acting as a seller seeks to sell the property quickly and under market value. Officials say realtors should take extra steps to verify the identity of the seller and ensure that they match the person on the land deed.
