GA Looking At Bill To Mandate Mental Health Classes In Public Schools

The General Assembly is considering legislation to make mental health classes mandatory in all Virginia public schools. The bill would require students at the elementary, middle, and high school levels to take a mental health class. Virginia’s Board of Education will consult with mental health experts and develop curriculum guidelines. After that, the board would submit the recommendations to the state board of health for approval. If this legislation passes, it would go into effect in the 2024-2025 school year.
