Mathews County Sheriff L. Mark Barrick announced he will not seek re-election this Novemver. Barrick tells the Gazette-Journal he will focus on his family and their health, as well as his own health, personal interests, and friends. Barrick began his law enforcement career as a Mathews County Sheriff’s deputy in 1982 at the age of 19. In 2011, he was elected Sheriff and will have served for 12 years.
