Va. Enacts Consumer Date Protection Act

VIrginia enacts a law dictating how companies can use an individual’s private data. The Consumer Data Protection Act takes effect in January 2023 and bill sponsors say consumers should know what data is being collected about them and companies need to be accountable for how they use and protect that information. Lawmakers looked at California’s similar measure in designing the Virginia bill. It was signed by Governor Ralph Northam earlier this month.
