COVID-19 again cancels the Mathews County Independence Day fireworks show at Mathews High School. Mathews Fireworks Committee spokesman Jeremy Elliott tells the Gazette Journal that it was a tough decision because residents have expressed a need for something to look forward to and a desire to bring back the time-honored tradition but the uncertainty from new strains of the coronavirus made it difficult to move forward.
